Speech Abstract

Healthcare IT enables deep integration between medical technologies,
people and processes.

Integrated Healthcare IT means synchronizing workflows and improving collaboration across departments, hospitals and even entire health systems to improve care coordination for patients. By combining clinical expertise and engineering excellence Siemens healthcare IT enables deep integration between medical technologies, people and processes so that our customers can run an integrated healthcare enterprise.

Critical information flows smoothly among care teams to enable better, faster decisions. The interoperability of all IT elements promotes efficiency, compatibility and accountability. The result: an optimized workflow across the continuum of care, which helps improving patient care, lower operating costs and increase patient
throughput.

The Soarian Integrated Care solution supports healthcare integration beyond the hospital and helps improve cross-institutional medical treatment processes.

Soarian® Integrated Care (Soarian IC) is a web-based health information exchange (HIE) solution that supports cross-institutional medical treatment processes and care coordination. In addition to an electronic health record, Soarian IC features a teleconsultation function, functionality for clinical conferences (e.g. tumor boards), forms for structured data acquisition and other features that can improve cross-sector cooperation. Once the patient has provided his or her consent, Soarian IC can be used to provide and share treatment-relevant data such as test results, diagnoses, medical images and ECGs on a digital basis across the boundaries of institutions and sectors.

For example a private hospital chain in Germany has successfully implemented our solution. The customer’s initial intention was to connect all 48 hospitals by using a comprehensive electronic health record to share all patient information generated by their hospitals. In the meantime, however the solution is not only used within
the hospital chain but also used to collaborate with its external partners (e.g. referring physicians) achieving a higher level of care for patients.

Beside the technical requirements resulting from different hospital information systems used by the hospitals  and the need to interface all of them to Soarian IC, the demanding data security and data protecting legislation
was challenging as well. Defining the right process of collaboration with clear rules, managing the change
within the organization and educating of all relevant users and stakeholders was very important for the
success of this project and Soarian IC. Today Siemens Healthcare is able to address these challenging topics.
